As I worked my way through the alphabet, I always seemed to
see words that began with P. Now, I’ve reached that letter, and I can “P” to my
heart’s content. (Yes, there was a Pun
there!!
Parties
If you’ve learned anything about me, you must realize that I’ve
always loved to throw parties. Now that I’m not able to handle all the bother
and fuss involved, I don’t do as many, but the thoughts and ideas are always
there. I loved giving my kids’ parties for their birthdays – and I really liked
it when the moms would stay and ooh and aah over my presentations. My daughter’s
were the easiest – the end of October lent itself to Halloween, and I’d do that
theme, with kids in costumes each year. I stopped being the hostess for awhile
when my son’s classmates arrived for his sixth birthday, and were the most
obnoxious group I’ve ever seen. They had no intention of listening to anything I
said, and they turned into brats right in front of me. Two of them grabbed my
son’s presents, opened them, and began to play with his things! Several treated
my brother (who was helping me) as their servant – “I want more juice.” “Get me
some more chips.” “When are we having real food?” Then one of them didn’t like the cake, so he turned it upside on my table and began to shmush it into the wood. Finally, I had one whose parents didn’t come to pick up until an hour past the end of the party. After that, Chucky Cheese and Sahara Sam became my buddies. Now I have some birthdays coming up soon, and I have to keep it simple, but I’m thinking of a cake that shows pigs in mud (I saw it on Pinterest,) and another with running shoes as a motif. I’ll let you know if they ever happen!
Plain Paint
Since we need to do some painting here, I’m thinking of
color schemes. My living room has always been white, and I think I’ll leave it
that way. My den is paneled – it was always that way, but it needs a change. I think
I’ll paint it (or others will) plain beige. The darker honey oak furniture will
stand out and it won’t look so dark. I want to keep simple window treatments
throughout – fabric-covered, wooden valences over simple sheers. The dining
needs to be un-wallpapered and then painted – I’ll keep it a light grayish-blue.
The kitchen and breakfast room will remain beige with a small plaid paper on
the lower-half, and a border on the top. No change to the white/cream powder
room, but paint – again neutral – in the family room. The front bedroom and
master suite will also be un-papered and painted in simple, light colors – gray
for one, very pale sage on the other. I’m told that these colors attract
buyers, so we’ll see.
Pinterest
Sometimes it drives me nuts! I see so many great ideas
there, but I could never duplicate them. Every week, in my areas of interest, I
receive an update of new creations. The greeting cards make me want to scream
with impatience that I can’t make similar ones with my weak, almost paralyzed
hand. The decorated cakes and cookies might be doable, but I’ve never tried. With
Easter and birthdays looming, though, I may give it a whirl.
Paper
One of my chores is to organize my work area here in the
den. I can’t believe I’ve collected so much paper – every color, so many
designs, and lots of plain stock. The sheets aren’t heavy enough for cards, so I
may be donating a good deal to a school. That doesn’t even begin to mention all
the envelopes I have on my shelves. How did I get to be a paper hoarder?
Pulchritude
I just threw that in because it was another vocab word. It sounds ugly, but it means beauty, loveliness, elegance, attractiveness… I haven’t seen it used all that often, but I like words that look as if they have one meaning, but in reality, have a totally different definition.
That’s it for “P-ing!” There are many more I could have
included, but these must suffice!
Peace,
Muff

Gosh, you would have been my go-to person in the old days to guide me in party giving. Just like gourmet food, fancy party giving was something I immensely enjoyed attending ; rarely, preparing.
Plethora is one on my favourite words! I hosted one of those birtday parties from hell for Sweet Pea. I had no idea that little girls could be so nasty!!
Neutral shades are best for resale, I like your choices.
"Pulchritude"?
Thank you for expanding my vocab.
I've never heard of that word!
(It does sound gross!--especially for meaning something so good.)
I can not believe that you are up to "P" already. This is a fun idea for keeping a blog going.
Judy, I did enjoy the planning and preparation. Now -- not so much!
Karen, I think the word sounds as if we're lisping!
Doug, now you can make the word your own by using it five times today. (That's how I taught new words to my students.)
Olga, Yes, but what do I do after "Z?"
Peace,
Muff
I would paint everything the same color. It uses less paint and buyers will be able to envision what color they want to paint..but it will look great until they get around to it:)
